I first began painting Asilo six months ago. Much of its earlier phases were not documented as I had lost all momentum.

Asilo did not begin as a predetermined image. Reworking paintings like this, over many months has its pitfalls. Some losses are irretrievable I have realised. Yet I have learned to see this as an acceptable part of my working method.
In a painting the interior life is unknown to you, but if you tune in sometimes the vibrations can be felt. And sometimes they can also be painted.
